Sustainable business

Respect is one of our core values: respect for the environment, society and each other. In everything we do, we count on employees who identify with our values and make a long-term commitment to our clients, our company, society and the environment.

We have been working for many years now to further strengthen our business' commitment to sustainability. We recognise that tackling sustainability is no easy task and that plans must continue to evolve and develop. Our ambitions for the future include collaboration with peers to drive industry-level commitment, directing cost-savings to ESG initiatives and pushing recycling in our offices further.

E for Environmental

  • Have established a Sustainability Committee responsible for the planning and implementation of our sustainability policies
  • Are recycling across all our offices and have also eradicated single-use plastic bottles
  • Responsible paper consumption, through cutting paper wastage, sourcing sustainable alternatives and encouraging use of our digital investment platform,  SmartWealth
  • The introduction of the LGT Vestra Forest. We have committed to planting a tree for every client that elects for paperless reporting. So far, we have planted thousands of trees for paperless clients, as well as for each member of staff, and have captured 1757.61 tonnes of CO2. Find out more about the LGT Vestra Forest
  • Switching our offices to green energy contracts
  • Removing office infrastructure that is not energy efficient, saving the energy equivalent of 2,000 miles per year in a car.

S for Social

  • Taking an active role in socio-economic development by partnering with Skills Builder, an organisation which seeks to build essential skills, such as speaking and listening, into the everyday curriculum
  • Supporting The Lord Mayor's Appeal - She Can Be…, an initiative which aims to empower young women to make informed decisions about their careers.
  • Promoting our industry to a diverse workforce by partnering with Investment 20/20 and 10,000 Black Interns, and offering a variety of internships, placements and entry level positions.
  • Defining our values worth sharing. We treat each other with respect and are open to and appreciate different opinions, perspectives and cultural practices. We are delighted to be recognised as a Great Place to Work, following a staff survey and culture audit led by an external consulting and research institute. Find out more about Great Place to Work
  • Co-ordinating our ongoing charitable activities through the creation of a Charities Committee. Find out more about our charitable partnerships.
  • Supporting all employees who wish to carry out volunteer work within the community or for charitable institutions through our Employee Volunteering Policy.
  • Enabling employees to contribute to the causes they care about through their pay, by using our Give As You Earn scheme

G for Governance

  • We are proud to be a signatory of HM Treasury's Women in Finance Charter and are committed to improving equality and fairness in the financial services industry.
  • Our Sustainability Strategy is founded on, and enforced by, a strong corporate governance structure, including a Sustainability Board chaired by LGT CEO, H.S.H Prince Max von und zu Liechtenstein.
  • Our organisational structure, with non-executive directors and representatives across LGT Group, is designed to make decisions quickly and independently, with transparent and open reporting. At LGT, the positions of Chair and CEO are held separately, allowing the roles to pursue their responsibilities independently.
  • We also have established audit and risk committees, who continually assess and improve the effectiveness of risk management, internal control environment and governance.

LGT's unique ownership structure is linked to a long-term and holistic approach to doing business. LGT adopted a sustainable mind-set early on and has had a dedicated sustainability management team in place for 10 years. We are proud to be part of LGT and able to leverage its expertise and network.

Sustainability Strategy 2025

Our parent company LGT has been pursuing prudent environmental and operations management for many year and has already reached a number of important milestones. In the Sustainability Strategy 2025, further ambitious goals have been defined in the areas of mobility, facility management, procurement, digitalisation, energy consumption and CO2 emissions.

Key achievements

  • Emissions: We offset unavoidable C02 emissions by supporting a wind power project in India. We also reinvest refunds from CO2 tax to the Swiss Climate Foundation
  • Energy consumption: We are increasing energy efficiency by using photovoltaic and solar systems.
  • Mobility: We encourage sustainable mobility by advocating public transport, offering EV charging points and making bicycles available to employees.
  • Procurement: Suppliers and sub-contractors must comply with internationally recognised principles such as UN Global Compact, which includes labour standards, human rights, environmental issues and the fight against corruption.

A philanthropic commitment

Each year, a minimum of ten percent of LGT Group dividends are allocated to philanthropic activities.

Founded in 2007, LGT Venture Philanthropy Foundation deploys philanthropic capital to organisations with effective, innovative, and scalable solutions to social and environmental challenges.

The foundation primarily supports organisations based in emerging markets, focusing on high-impact sectors, including education, health, and environment. This financial assistance really helps the organisations, but just as important are the transfer of knowledge and access to networks that the foundation facilitates.

A history of lobbying government

We are also a member of the World Economic Forum Alliance of CEO Climate Leaders. Along with 50 other CEOs globally who preside companies with a total of $1.3 trillion in revenues, our Group CEO signed the open letter calling on governments to be ambitious and address climate change. This letter was released ahead of the 24th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change in November 2018.
