LGT has been an official partner of the Champions Hockey League (CHL) and the CHL Top Scorer Award since September. In the CHL, the 32 best European hockey teams compete for the most coveted title in European club hockey.
Following its curling sponsorship, LGT is once again returning to the rink. The bank will be supporting the Champions Hockey League (CHL) in the current and coming seasons as a partner. In addition, LGT will present the best scorers with the CHL Top Scorer Award. The highest scorer on each team will go into each game wearing the LGT Top Scorer hockey sweater.
The CHL features the 32 best European hockey teams from 13 different countries who compete for the championship title between August and February. Throughout the championship, these top-caliber teams deliver maximum performance, play with unbelievable precision and exemplify strong team spirit – three key success factors that are also important at LGT.
The best European teams
The current, third CHL season began at the end of August, and the final will be held on 6 February 2018 after 124 games. The 32 participating clubs qualified for the CHL based on their results in the respective national leagues. During the current group stage, which will end with the games scheduled for 10 and 11 October, the 32 clubs are divided into eight groups and compete in a home-and-away round robin series. The two best teams in each group will qualify for the play-offs, which will again feature home and away games. The final will be held on 6 February 2018, and the team with the most points will have the home advantage.
Of the 32 clubs in the CHL, there are currently four Swiss teams represented: SC Bern, ZSC Lions, EV Zug and HC Davos. There are also three Austrian teams, the Vienna Capitals, Red Bull Salzburg and EC KAC, as well as two UK teams, the Nottingham Panthers and Cardiff Devils, competing for the title.
Perform. Score. Win.
Initially, LGT will be affiliated with the CHL as a partner during the current and the 2018/2019 seasons. “We are very pleased to support this young and growing sports platform. It is a competition that aligns very well with our values – performance, precision and good team work are important, both in sports and in managing client assets”, says Thomas Piske, CEO LGT Private Banking. “Given this fit, we are particularly proud to honor the Top Scorers for their outstanding achievements.”
