The route: Vaduz to Vienna

13 September 2018

Stefan Linderman, LGT Liechtenstein

The route from Vaduz to Vienna will guide us through one of the most beautiful landscapes in Austria with lakes, mountains, alpine villages and iconic cities. The first two days of the trip will be especially spectacular, but we are paying a price for this. On the first day, having departed Vaduz Castle in the early morning we will cross into Austria where the main challenge lies. The climb stretches over 30km with an 1800m ascent, taking us to the picturesque Vorarlberg, a well-known ski resort. Whilst the climb will be demanding, the view from the top when we reach Bielerhöhe is the reason to do it and day two will be easy in comparison, a long downhill stretch ending up in Innsbruck. The third day is our easiest day with 95km of relatively flat ground to cover, allowing time for everyone to recharge for the second half of the ride, where we have a series of long consecutive days cycling through the Austrian countryside.

On fourth day, we will briefly cross into Germany and cycle through southern Bavaria, before heading through Salzburg and finishing for the day on the shore of the stunning Mondsee, one of the lakes surrounding the city. That evening we will be hosted by our LGT office in Salzburg. The final two days involve a long haul of 150kms per day; we will arrive in Vienna on the Friday evening at the City Palace to be met by LGT Vienna. We look forward to showing the team from London, our neighboring surroundings, visiting LGT offices on the way and seeing some of Austria's well-known landmarks.
